Have you ever spent a few days without food? For most of you, this would be an unintelligent question and your involuntary response would be “NO”. But did you know that a large number of Pakistanis are unable to afford three basic meals a day? Pakistan has the second highest hunger score (32.6) in all of Asia after Afghanistan. Such hunger has some severe repercussions. For example, globally, Pakistan has one of the highest rates of stunting. According to the National Nutrition Survey of 2011, 44pc of children here are stunted because of poor nutrition. Women’s health is neglected and maternal malnutrition not only leads to higher mortality rates among women, but also fetal growth restriction, increasing the risk of stunted growth and other disabilities in children. Last year, a UN study found that only 4 percent of Pakistani children received a “minimally acceptable diet”. Another report published by the planning ministry stated that Pakistan loses $7.6 billion (that is 3 percent of the total GDP) each year due to malnutrition.
In order to solve the hunger problem, Fatima Memorial Hospital has taken the matter in its own hands. Since 1977, Fatima Memorial Hospital is providing quality health care services to all its patients, without any discrimination. Till date, Fatima Memorial Hospital has provided treatment to more than 8.8 million satisfied patients. Also, 82% of the patients are provided healthcare either free of cost or on subsidized rates. These patients belong to the deprived communities of Pakistan who are unable to afford the basic necessities of life. Hence, Fatima Memorial Hospital provides free meals to patients or attendants of the patients to ease their suffering.
However, the inflow of patients is rising day by day and in order to continuously cater to the nutrition needs of patients/patient attendants, FMH needs the support of its donors. Therefore, it is requested that you donate as much as possible to make your contribution in the conquest of ending hunger in Pakistan.
Looking forward to your generous donations!
Thank you!
