The Spring/Summer Term of 2023 has begun at Maronka Primary School! Schools reopened on 24th April. The last term of the school year is always an exciting time and this year is no exception.
Maronka's Eagles class (12 students including 4 girls) sat their National Primary School Exams (NPSE) on 6th May after much preparation.
In addition to the usual excitement of learning at Maronka, we have two exciting updates to share. The first is a Buddy Bench. EducAid's Country Director saw the idea of a Buddy Bench and shared with Maronka's teachers. Within a few days, Alie K and Mayio had created and introduced the Buddy Bench at Maronka. This is a safe place where anyone at Maronka who might be feeling sad, confused or lonely - in need of a friend or buddy to talk to or play with - can sit to be joined by a friend.
The second update is that EducAid's partnership with Imagine Worldwide has launched with Maronka Primary School piloting the use of tablets to strengthen and develop foundational literacy and numeracy. Maronka is one of EducAid's 5 pilot schools which will double to 10 schools in September. These piloting primary schools in Port Loko District will be using the tablets to learn whilst collecting data to see how successful this technology can be in Sierra Leone. EducAid's Maronka School continues to be a small village school making a big difference in Sierra Leone.
