NAP Elite Trust plans to drill 2 boreholes and install solar powered pumps to empower 40 starving families whose some of children are currently not attending school due to lack of funds, to establish market gardens, in Kabuba Village of Binga district in Zimbabwe.
Market gardening is a viable income generating project in Kabuba, but there is no surface water to carry out the activity. About 99% of Kabuba villagers are unemployed , which make them incapacitated to support and take their children to school. In January 2020, there were 34 children in Kabuba village who failed to enrol for secondary education, due to fees arrears at primary school that hindered them from getting their grade 7 results needed to enrol for secondary education.
A reliable water source, seeds, tools and pesticides will be availed to 40 starving families to enable them to establish market gardens to raise their household income. 4 training sessions will be made to equip the beneficiaries with required agricultural skills to boost the productivity of their gardens. A reliable market for the produce will also be sought and linked to the gardeners to maximise their income.
From the income raised, starvation will be reduced and families will be able to fully take their children to school. There will be a reduction in early marriages and illegal activities since 160 children will be able to learn and secure decent jobs, which will further alleviate poverty in families and the community at large. Through training, 40 beneficiaries will also acquire relevant agricultural skills that will sustain the production of their gardens.
