Education Africa in collaboration with the Australian High Commsiion in Pretoria celebrated the launch of two Marimba Hubs - an Education Africa extra-curricular music education programme that operates in schools and communities in underserved communities. To further highlight the need for accessible education, this collaboration positively impacts learners at two special schools, namely Adelaide Tambo Schoolf for the Physically Challenged in Soweto, and Sibonile School for the Visually Impaired in Garthdale.
In October, Education Africa and the Australian High Commission in Pretoria attended the celebration of two Marimba Hubs, showing their commitment to inclusive music education in the communities of Garthdale and Soweto. Research has revealed that one of the biggest challenges educational systems are facing, is keeping school children occupied after school hours and over the past 32 years, Education Africa has committed itself to Making real change Happen by providing Poverty Alleviation through Education, with a strong focus on social cohesion. The Education Africa Marimba Hub programme, depending on the area, often impacts between 100 – 200 primary and high school learners. Marimbas create social cohesion through cultural development and preservation of traditional music and through holistic benefits in all aspects of education and life skills.
“Education Africa is thrilled to have received funding from the Australian High Commission to help us Educate • Equip • Empower and thus Make real change Happen in the communities that we serve through our Marimba Hub programme,” stated James Urdang, Founder & CEO of Education Africa.
