International Marimba & Steelpan Festival 2023
International Marimba & Steelpan Festival 2023

We did it!

The return of our Live International Marimba & Steelpan Festival was a success. The Festival, which has become one of the largest festivals of its kind in the world, took place on the 29th & 30th July, 2023 at St. Dominic’s Catholic School for Girls, Boksburg.

Education Africa launched The International Marimba and Steelpan Festival to create world-wide awareness of the educational value of marimba playing and to create an international platform for our marimba and steelpan players in South Africa to perform on.

We are proud to announce that this year our festival hosted over 2000 musicians. It was quite the weekend, filled with incredible music and marimba playing and we are so happy that we got to experience this once again after offering virtual festivals due to the pandemic. One of our Festival highlights is the Massed Marimbas & Steelpans ensemble, where all the participants in the festival, get together, learn and eventually play a massed performance ft. a choir.

The Festival is fortunate to be supported by partners and donors who believe in our mission just as much as we do. Thank you to our sponsors. Lastly, thank you to all the schools and institutions that joined us, the performers, the teachers, the workshop presenters, adjudicators, administrators, audience members, caterers and crew. Without you, the Festival wouldn’t have been a success.
