Things are abuzz, as the Arts and Culture team prepares for this year’s instalment of Sounds of Celebration, the first of three events hosted by Education Africa and headed by our Marimba Specialist, Joan Lithgow. Social cohesion, as well as skills development and empowerment, still remains at the forefront of the organisation’s Marimba Hubs programme. Having a concert performance to work towards provides the needed motivation for many learners to refine their musical skills, to work as a team, and perform – a process that builds confidence, community, and a love of music.
While preparing for Sounds of Celebration, Education Africa continues to expand on the Marimba Hubs programme, as we are firm believers of bringing cultural enrichment and opportunity to under-resourced communities. We have managed to implement 4 new preschool Marimba Hubs, as well as launch 3 new Marimba Hubs. One of our more recent beneficiaries includes the MM Sebitloane Special School, a school for learners with severe intellectual and physical disabilities. On visiting the school in January and discussing with the management of the school it was decided that a preschool Marimba Programme would be a welcome addition to the newly established Marimba Hub. This addition to their school would ensure learner development through music and meet their mission and vision of providing education that is free from discrimination through the recognition of the uniqueness of individuals.
As the year progresses this is what we plan to continue building. Education Africa has an exciting year ahead and we cannot wait to tell you all about it.
Thank you for your enduring support to help Make real change Happen!
