Dear Friend of Education Africa,
We hope you are doing well and are keeping safe. In this report, we wanted to update you on all the hard work our Marimba Team has been doing. Our efforts recently have focused on continuing our training and practice aspects of the marimba programs.
We also have some exciting news! Our Marimba Hubs around the country have been preparing for the 2nd Education Africa Virtual Marimba and Steelpan Festival on 13,14,20&21 November 2021. We have had to adapt the annual festival to a virtual platform due to COVID and its consequent regulations.
The upside of a virtual platform is that it has allowed for easier access to musical groups from around the world. It is an absolute wonder to be able to bring people to share in a community of music from all around the globe. Our Marimba bands look forward to this event and are currently putting together their performance pieces and recording them to be a part of the festival proceedings.
Our virtual training of marimba educators and planning our second ever virtual festival has shown us the potential of building musical communities through technology. Using technology to increase the reach and efficacy of our programs is definitely something we plan to incorporate more in our programs going forward.
We are so proud of our Marimba Team for all their hard work and are looking forward to the exciting events to come!
