Dear Friend of Education Africa
We hope you are doing well and are keeping safe. In this report we wanted to let you know how our Education Africa marimba team is overcoming challenges during the lockdown.
Our Marimba Specialist Joan Lithgow and her team contacted all our Hub educators and completed a survey to find out how they could continue to give lessons during Lockdown. The educators unanimously voted for WhatsApp, and so Joan has started creating video tutorials and sending them on WhatsApp to all the educators.
On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays Joan sends video tutorials presenting song arrangements. On Monday she teaches the bass, Wednesday the middle section and on Friday she sends the melody and all the parts put together, which she does using the Acapella app. The educators are able to learn the song remotely as they all have dummy keyboards to work on at home.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays Joan presents revision theory lessons with 3 worksheets per lesson which the educators can answer and submit to the Education Africa Marimba Assistants, Khabo Motaung and Puseletso Ramashaoi, to be marked. The educators can then use these worksheets in their lessons to the children in their hubs.
We are so proud of our Education Africa Marimba team and all the work they have put in to overcome the lockdown challenges. We cannot wait to hear the sounds of marimbas soon.
