Young girls in poor societies are often the pillars of their home: they take care of younger brothers and sisters, of the home, and of sick parents. The result is that some girls who arrive to Malaika, especially those from rural areas have never entered a school.
Grace, aged seven, is one of the newest members of the Malaika family. Before arriving, in May, she was the main carer for her six month old brother, Samuel.
To receive the gift education is bringing Grace much happiness. However, it also means new experiences such as sitting in a classroom, learning English for the first time and reading books. These are some of the reasons that it is advantageous to offer children who come into our care at Malaika the opportunity to attend nearby boarding schools. We have found that those who live and learn in this environment:
Thank you for helping to give the gift of school to Grace and other children who are arriving to Malaika!
