This project will repair the water pump and filter at a community hub centre in Mathibestad South Africa, providing clean water to the families of the children impacted by HIV/AIDS and allowing them to expand the garden program which will provide more food to them for eating and selling for an income. In addition, the clean water will allow for a second phase of a bakery which will teach the families business skills. Lastly the clean water will allow for partnership for an on-site health clinic.
As an isolated community the people of Mathibestad cannot afford to go beyond the limits of the community. With the history of the Apartheid, families are at a disadvantage which includes the lack of access to clean and sanitary water, as the water they currently have contain high salt levels and the community relies on a water truck to deliver drinking/ cooking water at a high cost. Also far from the closest medical clinic, the cost of transportation is too high, especially for those with HIV.
CGE's mission is to transform the lives of children and families. We have local partners willing to support our garden program, add an on-site medical clinic, and start the bakery project. Once we are able to sustain clean and sanitary water, we will be able to grow enough in our gardens for families to eat and sell. Through the bakery and garden, youth and adults will receive practical business training. In addition to the medical clinic, especially for those with HIV/AIDS.
The project will provide clean water for 70 children and 20 families daily, allowing them to have access to food, and business enterprise, transitioning them from systemic poverty to systemic prosperity.
