Sharing a small story of 3 siblings :
Anticipating the birth of a new baby is usually a very exciting time of life. The expectant couple does many things to prepare for the baby, including setting up a nursery, gathering baby clothes, deciding on a name and many more things in their capacity. The parents expect to have a normal baby, with 10 fingers, 10 toes, and an intact face. Usually, they are totally unprepared for the possibility of a different outcome. Unfortunately, not all babies are born with perfect structures. When a child is born with cleft lip and/or cleft palate or other craniofacial anomalies, this is a true shock, especially because it involves the face. This can be a devastating blow to the family. What was expected to be a very happy and exciting time becomes a very stressful and emotional time for the parents and other family members.
There remain some phenomenal moments in every mission we conduct across the country that leave an enduring influence on each one of our lives changing our outlook on love and live forever. It was during our Shillong Colgate Mission we encountered a devastating moment from a family who has not one, neither two, three of their children born with cleft deformity. The painful and psychological condition of the parents with three of their kid with clefts only the parents can understand.
However, the emotionally strong and sensible parents tried to remain positive and find a solution to correct their child congenital deformity. The parents went to nearby government hospital and got to learn about the Mission Smile through RBSK team, it a breathtaking moment for the parents who got a hope that their wards too can get a smile like other peers Imorme Paslein , Kamnipaia Paslein, Markatjuh Paslein who are 8 yrs, 3.10yrs and 5.7 yrs respectively who belong to village Krem Mawsiang, under Khliehriat block of Meghalaya were screened on the third day of our mission and were cleared for the surgery on the fourth day of our mission. Imorme and Kamnipaia had bilateral cleft lip and Markatjug had unilateral cleft lip, all three had undergone surgery on the same day, and the surgery went successful. The joy of tears in the parent’s eyes was priceless when they saw their children smiling with like other children.
