Summary

In our unwavering commitment to ensuring that Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) in Kenya grow up to become productive adults, NR is establishing new Community Groups. These groups will integrate OVC into extended family care, providing oversight and support throughout their adolescent years. Moreover, these Community Groups will collaborate to optimize the collective experience for all members involved, fostering a supportive and nurturing environment for everyone involved.

Challenge

In rural areas of Western Kenya, children who are orphaned or vulnerable often find themselves without support and are left to care for themselves and their younger siblings. These communities, already struggling to provide for their own children, face significant challenges in extending care to these orphans. Consequently, these children, left to their own devices, are less likely to develop into self-sufficient adults, which in-turn develop into communities stricken by Generational Poverty.

Solution

Throughout our three-year support program, NR will aid Community Groups in developing the methods to provide the Seven Essential Services of: Food and Nutritional Services, Shelter and Care-Giving, Legal Aid, Healthcare, Psychosocial Support, and Educational Training. These services are designed to help OVC become self-sufficient adults. Additionally, our program will collaborate with these groups to create a sustainable project, ensuring their efforts continue after our support ends.

Long-Term Impact

Our three-year objective in establishing these Community Groups is not only to support the OVC currently in our program but also to create a sustainable means for these groups to continue their efforts independently. This approach aims to expand support to a larger community of OVC well beyond the duration of our partnership. Together, we strive to transform these generationally impoverished communities into self-sufficient adults who support their families and contribute to future generations.
