Ending FGM and Supporting Girls in Kenya

By Kip Onditi | Contract Program Manager

Dear Amazing Supporters,

We are so excited to share the latest updates from Kenya, where your generosity is changing lives. Because of you, young girls at risk of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) are safe, thriving, and pursuing their dreams. Every day, we work to give these girls a future filled with hope and possibility, and your support makes it all happen.

 A New Legal Initiative

We are launching something groundbreaking in Kenya—a new legal letter and holiday check initiative that could end FGM for good. This isn’t just another program. This is a bold, game-changing approach that targets the root cause of FGM. It’s the first of its kind in the region, and we believe it has the power to create a future where no girl ever has to face the horror of FGM again.

Little Naomi’s Journey

Naomi S., or “Little Naomi” as we call her, is a beautiful example of why we do this work. This year, Little Naomi transferred to St. Bonaventure Secondary School, a place where she can spread her wings after facing unimaginable hardships. She was once at risk, like so many others, but now she’s safe—and more than that, she’s thriving. When we asked her what she wants for the future, she smiled and said, “I want to be a doctor. I want to save lives.”

Imagine what Naomi been through. But thanks to you, she is free to dream about a future where she can help others, instead of fearing for her own life.

Supporting Our Girls Every Step of the Way

During the last school break, we took extra steps to ensure the girls could succeed academically. With your help, we hired teachers to give extra lessons in key subjects like Biology, History, and Kiswahili. These aren’t just classes—these are opportunities for our girls to build their confidence and realize they are just as capable as anyone else. The girls will now have these classes during every school break to keep them on track, thanks to you.

Naomi K. and Sarah N. are in their third year of high school and working hard, getting ready for their final year in 2025. They are determined to succeed, and with your help, we will make sure they have all they need to reach their dreams.

What’s Ahead

This term is short, and the girls won’t have a midterm break. But they are staying focused, knowing that their studies are the key to a brighter future. As we look ahead, we’re excited to see Naomi K. and Sarah N. prepare for their final exams next year and begin the next chapter of their lives. And for Little Naomi, we’ll continue to be there for her as she moves through her second year of high school in 2025.

Why Your Impact Matters

Your support doesn’t just help these girls pass exams—it gives them a second chance at life. The extra lessons, the safe house, the mentorship—all of this is possible because you care. You are providing more than education. You are giving these girls the tools to break free from cycles of fear and violence and step into a future they can control.

When you hear about girls like Little Naomi, remember that it’s your love and generosity that make her dreams possible. You are the reason these girls have a safe place to call home. You are the reason they can sleep peacefully, knowing they’re protected.

Community Engagement

We are not just working with the girls. We are engaging parents, community leaders, and neighbors—sparking conversations about why it’s vital to educate and protect their daughters. Through meetings, workshops, and open dialogue, we’re building a community that stands up against harmful practices like FGM. This is how real, sustainable change happens—one conversation at a time.

In Closing

We can’t thank you enough for standing by our side. Your support is transforming lives, saving girls, giving them a future, and ending FGM for good. Together, we are writing a story of hope, resilience, and courage. And it’s far from over.

Let us continue this journey together. These girls are counting on us, and with you, we know we can create a world where every girl is free to thrive.

With deep gratitude,

The FGM Zero Team
