We are pleased to report that the training of RESTORE HOPE: LIBERIA's tutors was held the third week of August. Two trainers from Liberia Reads! traveled to Kolahun and trained RESTORE HOPE: LIBERIA's tutors as well as 15 primary grade school teachers from local schools in Kolahun District.
The training was the first of three modules in the Liberia Reads! training program. The focus of the first module was Phonological Awareness and Phonics. All participants are eager to complete all three training modules!
Included in the training was an assessment tool so that RHL tutors and participating school teachers can assess each student to determine their current reading skills. We will be doing this for each student who attends RHL's afterschool tutoring program to assess current levels, group the students accordingly, and begin focusing on phonics.
RESTORE HOPE: LIBERIA will begin making plans for our tutors to complete the second module in collaboration with Liberia Reads!
We'll be sharing more details about the training and the progress of the children in subsequent reports.
Stay tuned!
