Lilipad is on a mission to improve children's lives by promoting the love of learning and reading. We open children's libraries in underserved communities and we strive to transform them into safe havens where the children can learn, grow and have fun. Since 2017, we have installed 7 Lilipad libraries in Uganda, Morocco and Germany, and our objective for 2022 is to continue growing our reach and impact. Our vision is for every child in our communities and beyond to reach their full potential.
Today, over 250 million children are out of school, while more than half of children in school are not learning or receiving quality education. Children in disadvantaged communities can experience many barriers to quality education, namely the lack of school resources, books and quality teaching. Such exclusion can lead to a series of hurdles throughout a child's life, and leave them without the basic skills needed to help them break the cycle of poverty and realize their full potential.
Lilipad strives to improve access and quality of education by providing children with books, educational materials and in-person support and training. We partner with local institutions to intervene at different levels of the education funnel, depending on the needs of the community. Our initiatives always begin with libraries. We see libraries as a haven for access to books and resources to improve people's lives.
This project will increase access to books and educational materials for # of children which will ease the financial burden on the families and therefore decrease overall rate of school dropouts, as well as allow for the success of children in their school environments. This project will allow a school in Uganda to remain active and to ensure the library is accessible by children and students, leading to an increase in both literacy and academic performance.
