Our 2025 project has begun

We are pleased to report that the snowpack is finally melting in Baharak, the village in the Badakhshan Province of Northern Afghanistan where our flagship Children's Garden is located.

Recently, Global Roots USA funded a celebration that was attended by all of our teachers, administrators and their loved ones.

A passerbyer poked her head into our gala to ask, "what are you celebrating?" The old woman seemed surprised to see so many people so happy in a time where most things are failing in the Afghanistan.

One of our teachers told the old lady about our program, sharing our key achievements from 2024:

  • 100% enrollment of eligible female applicants in secondary education
  • GPA improvement from 33.7 to 92.6
  • Production of 66.689 metric tons of nutritious food, valued at $20,952.
  • 95% attendance rate

Our teacher invited the old lady to come in and she talked about how much she loved school when she was a little girl, 70 years earlier, long before the Soviet Invasion.

We fed the old lady and gave her some cake to take home to her family. With tears in her eyes, she said "Maybe there is still hope."

I have attached photo of two small girls presenting their work and a second photo of our awards banquet. It was a night to celebrate our success and plan our 2025 classroom program and agricultural goals.

Our 2025 Children's Garden program is underway and everyone is excited.

What I was particularly thrilled about is that nobody talked about politics or the changes happening in Washington DC.

I would like to thank you, our GlobalGiving donors because we would not be able to do this without your support. Global Roots is funded by hundreds of individual donors and a few generous family foundations. We do not get any direct support from the US Government so we are unaffected by the demise of USAID.

Thanks again for for your generous donations!!
