Dear Partner and Friend

We hope you are safe and taking good care of yourself. The past few months have been tough for the whole world because of the Covid-19 outbreak. We continue to stand in solidarity with every person affected by Covid-19. We are hopeful that we shall come out of the pandemic stronger.

Here at Hope Foundation for African, we are grateful that you have chosen to support us in life skills education to end teenage pregnancy. Our advocacy programs are needed now more than ever given the saddening reports from local media that since the outbreak of Covid-19, 4,301 and 2,741 girls in Kisii and Nyamira respectively have been impregnated. Additionally, there are cases of increased cases of FGM in the region going by the media reports. The worrying trends is taking us back to where we began.

Over the past one month, we have done one media outreach where we spoke on local radio station on how the closure of schools has led to a spike in cases of rape, FGM, and child abuse in Nyamira and Kisii counties. We applauded children’s officers for warning parents on the need to supervise their children since there are equally increased cases of child negligence in Nyamira and Kisii. We emphasized that taking care of children is a shared responsibility which all members of the community should be willing to take. Also, we spoke on the worrying trends of young girls being wooed by gifts in exchange for sex. We reached at least seventy thousand listeners. Although we would love to conduct the media outreach more frequently, we cannot because of challenges in facilitating the program. Nevertheless, we are highly appreciative that we can do even one outreach. The audio clip of the interview can be found here

Dear partner and friend, no amount of words can ever describe our gratitude towards your generosity and love for our community. You have been supportive. This is encouraging and motivating. Kindly consider sharing this project with your friends and family so that they can see the impact you are making in our community. Stay safe.
