From Despair to Hope: Your Support Saved 420 Newborn Babies

Al-Mustafa NICU continues its mission to provide free, life-saving critical care to newborn babies from impoverished families in Karachi. Over the past six months, our dedicated team has worked tirelessly to ensure the survival and well-being of vulnerable neonates, offering hope to families who cannot afford expensive NICU treatments.

Key Achievements (Sep 2024 – Feb 2025)

Birth Rate & Prematurity

Total births: 520 babies (monthly average: 87).
Premature births: 108 babies (20.8% of total births).
Low birth weight (LBW) neonates: 153 babies (29.4% of total births).

NICU Admissions & Treatment

Total neonates treated: 420 (monthly average: 70).

Peak demand: November 2024 (236 admissions due to seasonal illness outbreaks).

Impact Stories

Case Example: A critically ill premature baby (1.2 kg at birth) received round-the-clock care for 6 weeks. After treatment, the baby gained weight (2.1 kg) and was discharged healthy. The family, unable to afford private care, expressed profound gratitude for the free support.
Community Trust: Families consistently praised the NICU team’s compassion, with many returning for postnatal follow-ups.

Challenges & Future Goals

Challenge: Seasonal spikes in admissions (e.g., November 2024) strained resources.
Goal: Expand capacity to handle high-demand periods.
