Life Journeys Writing and Mentoring Project

Dear Generous Giver and Lover of the Literary Arts,

Focusing on our Life Journeys Publishing Project, we attended the National Book Festival and spread the word about our present and upcoming authors, and we met those wanting to write and engage with LJWG to guide them. During High School graduation season, LJWG supported graduates and distributed gifts. During our spring/summer Big Quarterly, we ventured out to Eastern Shore, Maryland, to inspire and inform new writers. As a guest presenter for the Big Quarterly, we invited a former Washington Post editor and reporter to inform us about professional avenues, the ethics of journalism, and more. This summer, we also informed on what Artificial Intelligence (AI) means for writers, and how best to use it (and, in some instances, beware of it). We conducted several Life Journeys Writing and Mentoring workshops that empowered a women’s group and women living in transitional housing. We presented to the Maryland Drug Court’s special program graduations for ex-offenders and the National Drug Treatment Court Month celebration. We also attended the Court’s steering committee meetings to lend our expertise and support. Overall, we continue to support at-risk men, women, and youth.

LJWC will conduct a three-part Life Journeys Writing and Mentoring workshop series this school year, designed for its Native American families. We are planning it right now.  Also, look for us via a Smithsonian Institute and Maryland Humanities Traveling Exhibit titled SPARK! — coming in the summer of 2025 (We are actively inviting, planning, and promoting the participation of local talents in The Arts). We have called on our medical community (which has accepted our invitation) to work together to conduct outreach/social awareness, to demonstrate and inform about the mental health and holistic attributes and wealth of writing.

The impact of all our programming is its ability to operate “as an economic bridge of access for all those who wish to or need to engage in the literary arts.” That is an excerpt from our mission statement. The word (and intention to create and maintain) “access” was built in from its inception. We intentionally create spaces that make people feel safe, heard, and seen.

A sincere thank you for all your tax-deductible donations and thank you to those few dedicated givers making recurring donations. Your generous gifts enable us to feed the passions of those who love and need to engage in the Literary Arts.

Kindly, I hope you will spread the good word on the wealth of writing, how we’re working hard to make a difference, and that even a modest monthly gift such as $10/$25 (tax-deductible) can fuel our impact on the world. All in all, we are very grateful!

Thank you,

Yvonne J. Medley, LJWC Founder/Executive Director
