In Thamarit Village of Kodinal Block, during a meeting with fishermen community, Hari and Budha shared an anecdote from their daily lives–
"We were 5 nautical miles away from the coast at 3 am in night. It was pitch dark and we were surrounded by high tides and lightning. It made us anxious to reach the coast as early as possible. There was four of us in the boat and we kept trying to move slowly towards the coast without getting lost. If not for our focused manoeuvre, we would have landed in Sutrapada Port or Murdwarka Port. But we somehow managed to reach the coast. "
Post this meeting two of our young volunteers, Bansi and Harish, took us to show the broken lighthouse in the village. On climbing the lighthouse, we saw that all the lighthouse appliances and infrastructure have been deteriorated. Also the ladder leading to the top was broken. People who came with us, told us that this lighthouse has been closed for past 10 years. If lighthouse gets repaired we could come directly to Thamarit and not get lost in our route. In village, there are 600 boats, we always have to come back in the night, which is a big problem.
CSJ’s team members - Katira, Dhaval and Arvind researched on, which department can interfere in this matter. They sent an application by the name of a volunteer alongwith signatures of 20 -25 fishermen and sent it to different departments like Fisheries Commissioner Gandhinagar, Lighthouse Parivahan Kacheri, Jamnagar, Mukhyamantri Shri Gujarat Rajya, Nayak Niyamak Shri FisheriesVibhag, Veraval
In response to which, Jamnagar surveyed the village and sanctioned a budget of INR 3,83,000 for construction of the lighthouse. Jamnagar has released a tender for private constructor in June 2017 and promised to complete it by 2018.
