In our previous report, the piece of land we had identified for our first resource centre was in contention. We had hope that the owners would meet us half way, but unfortunately it did not work out.
This has halted other processes such as procurement of necessary materials and the hiring of contractors.
We are happy to report that we have diversified the list of potential spaces to host the centre. These include unoccupied pieces of land, community halls, schools, churches and mosques that usually contain compounds which can accommodate other structures and serve the community. Our team has spent the last few months profiling and visiting these locations in different underserved communities in and around Kampala. We are hopeful that after analysing the list of places visited so far; one will be selected and the establishment of the centre will kick off.
Additionally, we have conducted a needs assessment with different stakeholders to understand learning needs of children, in and out of school and teacher skills gaps. The results of this are guiding our process of content curation that will be delivered at the centre. The content will be reviewed and adjusted to meet the needs of specific communities we will work with.
In the meantime, we have reunited with the learners in our partner schools for another term of Angaza. We are especially elated because the two-year school closure separated us from our favourite people on this journey- the children. Working with them this year has been nothing short of amazing.
We are still raising money for the centre by involving our supporters. Next weekend we shall host a football fundraiser dubbed 5 Aside UG. It will bring together 32 teams competing for the top prize. The matches will take place alongside fitness dances, strength training, board games and bouncy castles for the children.
This will be our second fundraiser of the year and we can’t wait to interact and have fun with our amazing supporters. If you are in Kampala on Saturday,2nd July, we would love it if you could join us. We shall be at Old Kampala S.S.S (Opposite Gadaffi Mosque) all day.
The Foundation is deeply indebted to you for your generous support to this cause. Because of your kindness, our efforts to bring the necessary and much needed educational support to children in underserved communities are realised and strengthened.
