Hello everyone!
We are so excited to update you on our new developments.
This year we introduced our inaugural internship program. 25 interns were selected out of a pool of 94 applicants. These brillinat young people are in charge of facilatating our Angaza literacy program. Every week, they work in community Primary schools in slum areas to teach children to read, write and express themselves. So far, we have seen great progress with the 180 children we work with. It is little things like watching them get out of their shell or learn to spell a new word that give us the chills. We look forward to even bigger milestones!
The interns were tasked with starting their own projects for out of school children and have since formed 4 groups covering Bukoto, Namuwongo, Kansaga and Banda. Uganda has some of the highest school drop out rates in the region. It is imporatnt for us to also engage children who do not complete the school cycle. At least 200 additional children will benefit from this program.
As a build up to our first learning centre, we have incorporated skills training to our program. This is because the centre will be a one stop plcae for children to not only read but also learn skills and practice what they have learnt.
During weekends, we partner with individuals and organisations to teach children while having fun in the process. So far we have taught bracelet making, art, dance and poetry. We plan to incorporate other activities like robotics and computer lessons.
In the meantime, we thank you for your continous support and look forward to reaching the finish line with you.
Blessings!
