Preparing WEPs I Am a Leader Academy

By Zoe Timms | Executive Director

Since December 2019, Women's Education Project has held multiple conversations with two potential partner organizations (one in Baroda and a second in Lucknow) to discuss hosting our I Am a Leader Academy.

For both the new partners and our current Centers in Madurai, Hyderabad and Kadapa, WEP is preparing the I Am a Leader Academy 2020, a revised program offering three certificate courses for young underpriviledged women to become economically independent leaders in their own lives.

My SIsterhood Certificate - Trained to become Peer Leaders, students assist with Academy activities, conduct home visits and research, and lead “ripple effect” groups, study groups, book club, sports, crafts, and dance sessions. The Sisterhood builds a supportive community and ensures completion of studies and ambition to pursue higher education or vocational programs.

My Leadership Path - Workshops and discussions on leadership and Gender, Health and Nutrition and Rights.  Students explore 9 topics through exposure trips and interviews. My Leadership Path builds knowledgeable, confidence and curiousity in the topic areas while preparing young women to become leaders aware of their opportunities.

I Am Economically Independent - Courses on financial literacy, communication skills, and basic computers prepares young women to enter formal sector careers of their own choosing.

In April, WEP will begin piloting the Academy and preparing to scale our work through networked organizations.

We look forward to updating you about our launch.
