Challenge

Peru's educational system statistically lags behind other Latin American nations. The pandemic exacerbated this situation, with children missing two years of school. Rural areas suffer the most severe inequities, influenced by factors such as the relationship between teachers and the community, a focus solely on cognitive skills, and educational methodology. These issues collectively hinder educational quality and opportunities for rural children.

Solution

The Kick-Off approach fills a gap for rural communities in Peru by leveraging the existing passion and community-wide interest in their national sport: soccer. This initiative considers the importance of cognitive and non-cognitive skills for all children, emphasizing the urgency for all of us to become socially well-rounded citizens. Kick-Off has an impact on individuals as well as the collective, as soccer fosters bonds of unity and provides opportunities for mutual learning.

Long-Term Impact

The proven value of developing both non-cognitive and cognitive skills for populations with limited access to adequate education highlights a unique opportunity within Peru's education system to enhance long-term student achievement and socioeconomic mobility. Implementing this project will enable these populations to accumulate Human and Social Capital. To ensure sustainability, include participation in the project as part of its programs (Mutual Learning Opportunities for young citizens).
