Festival for Change-Empowering Youth on GBV

By Nowell | Programs Assistant

Dear Supporters,

To mark the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, our youth came together to lead a transformative event: the Festival for Change, which took place on December 9,2024 at our center. Project Elimu, in partnership with Cfk Africa organized the festival to celebrate youth empowerment while addressing the urgent issue of gender-based violence (GBV). Following a series of mentorship sessions and art classes during the holiday season, our youth created pieces for the event.

The festival served as a platform to amplify the voices of women, children and youth, celebrate achievements, and foster critical conversations about the root causes of GBV and the effective ways to combat it. Through art, dialogue, and community-led solutions, the event sought to inspire meaningful change and solidarity within the Kibra community. The festival featured various engaging activities designed to educate, empower, and inspire action. Dance performances by youth from the Project Elimu program showcased the transformative power of art in building confidence and resilience.

Young participants used the platform to express their creativity and address social issues through art, gaining confidence and a sense of agency in the process. Additionally, the event strengthened collaborations between local organizations and the community, fostering partnerships to sustain efforts against GBV.

This impactful event was made possible through your support. Your contributions helped create a platform for hope, empowerment, and action. As we near the end of another year, we reflect on the incredible strides made in supporting the children of Kibera, thanks to your unwavering generosity. From all of us at Project Elimu, we wish you and your loved ones a Merry Christmas and a New Year filled with joy, love, and abundance!
