Brenda's Journey: From Kibera to Kisumu Girls High School

By Mike Wamaya | Team Leader Project Elimu Kenya

Brenda infront of her house.

Growing up in Kibera, a sprawling slum in Nairobi, Kenya, Brenda has faced more challenges than most young girls her age. Despite the odds stacked against her, Brenda never lost her passion for dance and her dedication to her education.

Born to a single mother who struggled to make ends meet, Brenda's future was uncertain. Her mother's financial difficulties often meant that she would miss school, as she was unable to pay the school fees. But Brenda never gave up. She worked hard at the dance studio and also , studied late and found ways to continue learning even when she was away from school.

Through her hard work and determination, Brenda was able to beat the odds and achieve what many thought was impossible. She excelled in her studies and was accepted into Kisumu Girls High School western Kenya, a prestigious institution known for its rigorous academic program and strong commitment to empowering young women.  Through Friends of project Elimu she got a full scholership and she will be studing in Kisumu for the next four years.

This was Brenda's dream come true. She finally get the chance to pursue her passion for dance and receive a top-notch education. Brenda  had never left Kibera in her 14 years of life until her journey to Kisumu, a great inspiration to all of us and evidence that everything is achievable with hard work and determination, regardless a story replicated my many of Project Elimu's many beneficiarioes.

Brenda would have not achived this if not for your comitment, donations  and support towords Dance school's work in Kibera.
