COHORT SIX INTAKE
Early in May 2022, Affecto Foundation received over 300 applications from guardians and parents of students who were at the risk of becoming school dropouts. These students had performed extremely well but they were on the verge of succumbing to despair. The foundation and its team strategized on holding interviews, prioritizing on those who were yet to join school.
From 9th – 20th May 2022, the interview panelists had a chance of hearing from 49 students who were shortlisted for interviews. The stories were overwhelming and hopelessness was evident. Some students had even borrowed clothes from their neighbors in order to attend the interviews. Affecto Foundation had to take care of transport fee of some of the interviewees back to their homes for they sincerely had no busfare. The two weeks were quite intense and emotionally draining for the Affecto vetting team. The office had to run from as early as 0700hrs to as late as 2100hrs to cope with the demand and to meet the short deadlines.
The applicants were from vast areas across the country indicating the similarity of pattern in education gap. Affecto Foundation spent KES 1.95M ( $16,503.05) to cater for school fees and other school related costs for 46 students who were identified and enrolled into Watoto Wasome program academic year 2022-2025. Affecto Foundation is excited to walk the journey of transformation with these beneficiaries and hopefully this gives them an opportunity to better their lives and the lives of their loved ones.
Thank you, GlobalGiving for enabling Affecto Foundation to implement its cause- Keep A Student in School Program. We are grateful for the $6,072.87 received in the month of May, 2022 towards support for education of the underprivileged in Kenya. These is a unique and lifetime gift that they shall forever be proud of. We say thank you on behalf of our beneficiaries.
Long live GlobalGiving.
