In 2025, Kardias proudly celebrates 25 years of transforming the lives of Mexican children and their families. Over the past quarter-century, we have provided more than 4,600 children with the chance to live healthy lives through exceptional care for congenital heart disease. Join us in celebrating 25 years of impact and help us write the next chapter of this incredible journey. Together, we can ensure that every heartbeat is a testament to love, care, and possibility.
One in every 120 children are born with congenital heart disease, being this the second leading cause of infant mortality under 4 years old. In Mexico every year 19,000 children have this ailment but only 6,000 receive treatment and in many of these cases not of the best quality. Our mission is to ensure that every Mexican child born with a congenital heart defect receives the best medical treatment.
Kardias funds corrective heart surgery for almost three hundred children a year, with an annual success rate of 98.2 %. The center, established in 2019, is the first pediatric heart center in Mexico. It is a state-of-the art facility. The surgical team is headed by Dr. Alexis Palacios, a pediatric heart surgeon who trained at Texas Childrens Hospital with Dr. Charles Fraser. Dr. Palacios has twenty years of experience operating on the fragile hearts of afflicted young children.
Children born with heart defects whose conditions go untreated suffer long-term physiological damage, shortened life-expectancy, and impaired brain development. The Heart Center provides the highest quality of treatment for poor children who suffer from heart maladies. Kardias upholds the value of human life and the hope of a better future. Every child represents an unknown potential, and the failure to realize that potential represents an incalculable loss. Kardias serves hope.
