Our gratitude for all those who support our work

Recently, YUM published its 2015 Annual Report and we could not help but remember all those who helped and supported us during our time of need, when the haze was at its worst, including you of course!

Many partners were on the ground, volunteering with us and we believe it is only right to acknowledge their hard work.

1. GAAS (Gerakan Anti Asap) provided medical assistance and medicines. They initially helped YUM to open a temporary clinic. They also invited a storyteller from Jakarta who organised activities in the YUM library, regarding the dangerous effects of the smoke.

2. The Alumni of University of Indonesia's Social Studies Campus sent doctors, volunteers, medicines, bottles of oxygen and milk. They also paid for 2 doctors from the Islam Medical Service to fly to Palangkaraya.

3. The Alumni of Tarakanita School in Jakarta also sent medicines, milk, oxygen cans and vitamins, as well as volunteers to help distribute the relief packages.

4. Susila Dharma Indonesia and other Subud organizations provided masks, medicines, oxygen cans and vitamins. Those who were present in Kalimantan also helped during the relief efforts.

In total, YUM assisted more than 1,700 people from 8 surrounding villages. Sadly, the most common illnesses were bronchitis, bronchopneumonia and pneumonia. We have also distributed over 3,000 information leaflets to our community about the haze's health effects and why slash & burn methods are dangerous.

As we move along on our work to reduce the impact of last year's haze emergency and hopefully reduce the probability of such circumstances ever happening again, we are reminded that it is a team effort.

As the dry season slowly returns to Indonesia, we hope that these efforts will not go in vain!
