Dear GlobalGiving Family,
Germinating Every Mind-Liberia (GEM-Liberia) and the Jennifer Albee Enrichment School extend their profound gratitude to GlobalGiving and all our donors for their continued support to the girls of Liberia. GEM- Liberia is pleased to submit its quarterly report. The periodic report is part of the GEM-Liberia’s commitment to GlobalGiving and our donors. This period's report covers from February 15 - June 16, 2022. We are excited to share with you, happenings that have been unfolding in the school since our last report.
Second Anniversary Celebrations-- On May 6, 2022, the school commenced its Second Gala Anniversary Celebration with community service. Service Day was held at the District Office of District 11 of Montserrado County. In the early morning hours, the students had the opportunity to talk with their Representative in the District Office. The students were given the time to speak directly with the lawmaker and ask him about some of the projects he had undertaken since his ascendency to office. The lawmaker was able to name education and health as two of his key pillars. He has established a district mobile health clinic and noted that the students could ask for the services of the mobile clinic on campus and it would be available to them. Service Day was then climaxed with a cleaning of the entire District Office.
The continuation of the Gala Week was carried out through Sports Day, Career Day, African Costumes Day and most importantly, our Queen Contest and the battle for the most prestigious crown, Miss Jennifer Albee Enrichment School. Two queens represented the kindergarten division, while five girls from the upper level competed. Hannah of Grade Six won the Queen Contest and is proud to be our new Miss Jennifer Albee Enrichment School.
Testing Exams-- We have completed our first semester and entered the second half of the academic year. Five students (three 4th graders, one 3rd grader and one 6th grader) received quarterly promotions based on their high academic performances.
PTA-- The school hosted two Parent Teacher Association meetings. We also attended three district meetings and the school obtained membership as part of the Principal's Association.
Staffing-- Two new instructional and administrative staff members joined us in this quarter-- Mr. Terry Bortu, Vice Principal for Instruction, and Mr. Jonathan Earley, Vice Principal for Administration. In these roles, both men will help increase the effectiveness and quality of the school service. We wish Mr. Abraham Makuie, who was serving in the capacity of Vice Principal, the best of luck as he leaves us for international studies.
Huge Milestone-- GEM has used funding from the United States Embassy to cultivate its school farm and harvest the first produce, cucumbers, on June 4, 2022.
GEM extends its gratitude to the GlobalGiving Family, through whose kind donations, has supported the initiatives of having a quality education for girls in Liberia. We are achieving our purpose gradually as the days unfold and we are hopeful for a bigger and brighter future.
Once again, a big thanks to GlobalGiving and our many donors for their support in helping us achieve our dream.
