HAF has conceptualized a three-year project to plant a total of 700,000 native fruit tree seedlings in a nursery on land lent in-kind by the Provincial Management of Water and Forests in Boujdour. This project would include the establishment of plant breeding infrastructure and skills and cooperative building with women in the area who will manage and benefit from the tree nursery. From the second year, mature trees would be sold by the cooperative to communities in the region.
This project would contribute to the creation of an income-generating project of regional importance that would be integrated into the entrepreneurial fabric specialized in the green economy and sustainable development. It would improve the living conditions and food security of the population, women’s financial independence and empowerment, and the environmental awareness and stewardship of school communities.
Tree growth would be monitored utilizing a GPS and GIS system, and voluntary carbon offsets would be generated and commercialized, with the net revenue reinvested in reseeding the nursery and water infrastructure and efficiency. Approximately 3,500 people would benefit from this important project.
