You & Iraqi Children against COVID

Dear Friend of Iraqi Children:

What you have made possible during the COVID pandemic in Iraq is heartwarming!

Without warning, vulnerable Iraqi orphans, street kids, and poor children came face to face with a new threat to their health, education, and welfare.  Before, it was war and displacement.  Now, it was a dangerous disease that prompted schools to close and numerous city curfews. The impact of COVID caused job losses in already poor families and an increase in the risk of abuse and violence against children and their mothers. But, with your help, this is what we have accomplished together as a team:

  • Distribution of 1,249 packages of food and critical hygiene packages for children of the Hope Buses, street children in Baghdad, and poor children and families in Mosul, Basra, and Erbil.  The supplies were designed to help support a family of five for a week.  No luxuries, of course, but the basics.  In some cases, children were able to stop begging because of these gifts.

  • Income support for poor women and mothers with children who made pink and blue masks.  Masks were distributed to students and the community, as well as hand sanitizer.

  • Toys were distributed to poor boys and girls who were unable to attend classes on the Hope Buses.  It was an extra treat to lift their spirits during a tough time for them and their families.

Want to do more?  Mark your calendar to join us December 1 - "Giving Tuesday" - when ICF will compete with other GlobalGiving nonprofits for a share of $1 million!  The more donations Iraqi children get, the larger the slice of the $1 million pie.  Email cindy@iraqichildren.org if you want a friendly calendar reminder!

Gratefully,
