Dear Friend,
You subscribed to email updates from Interrupt Trauma with Art and Kindness in Iowa by Iowa Arts-In-Education DBA ArtForce Iowa, a project on GlobalGiving. Here's the unedited update from the field:
Thank you again, supporters, for valuing the creativity of youth who have been marginalized. With your support, ArtForce Iowa is able to reach young people who have been labelled or stigmatized by oppressive systems with the healing power of art. We partnered with our friends at the Des Moines Art Center to learn more about the sculptures at the Pappajohn Sculpture Park. Youth artists were encouraged to create art in reflection of what they learned about the various sculptures and artists.
"This piece (art featured below) was inspired from Ai WeiWei, he is an art activist. This piece represents war and the victims of the ongoing war. White represents freedom, black represents the ongoing war. Not many people are taking notice about the active ongoing war around the world. Due to this thousands of people are dying, suffering, being displaced from their home and have no where to go. The white stripes is a representation of people going to freedom and is trying to reach freedom but on the way, they are captured or cannot make it. Only the strongest one can make it but they cannot do it by themselves, they need the worlds help but if no one speak up for them, they will eventually die and have no one to remember them." - Youth artist DP.
