This project aims at reducing water, hygiene and sanitation related diseases for improved quality of education through equitable access, sustainable management of water, hygiene, sanitation and environment for the girl child, boys and teachers in 3 targeted primary schools in Wol sub county in Agago District, Northern Uganda. The project shall support construction of water and sanitation facilities as well as building institutional capacity to sustainably use and manage them.
Out of 14 government primary schools in Wol sub county, only 03 have access to basic sanitation facilities and more than half do not have access to clean water. 55% of the young girls miss school due to lack of sanitary pads and washrooms with water. This situation creates a poor learning environment leading to child drop out, early marriages, absenteeism and eventually weak curricular and co-curricular performance. This project will benefit over 2200 boys and girls with access to WASH services
JESE will partner with parents, local authorities and community to construct school water sanitation and hygiene infrastructures (latrine blocks, Girls Washrooms, Rainwater harvesting tanks, Hand washing facilities), strengthening management capacity of school health clubs and school management committees, capacity building in menstrual hygiene management including making of re-usable menstrual pads, Hygiene and sanitation education and promotion, partnerships, research and knowledge management.
The project shall provide clean water and appropriate sanitation and hygiene services to 2200 boys , girls and teachers hence reducing occurrence of and vulnerability to water and sanitation related illnesses resulting into improvement in the quality of education, retention and health for both boys and girl children
