By Linda Calhoun | Founder and Executive Producer, Career Girls
Earlier this year, Career Girls launched our first international project in Rwanda, in conjunction with local organization Starlight Rwanda. Through this impact-driven project, Career Girls sought to empower Rwandan girls to make their own choices for their futures. When girls are empowered, they can better support themselves, their families, and their communities.
Career Girls reached over 100 girls in Rwanda through a four-week series of interactive workshops based on Career Girls’ free role model video and curricula available on our website, focused on building the confidence and resilience of girls as they work to build their own future careers.
Our local partner on the ground, Starlight Rwanda, adapted the Career Girls curriculum to better fit the needs of these Rwandan girls - highlighting careers that are plentiful in Rwanda but not necessarily spoken of often. In particular, Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) careers was a main focus, as STEM is still a male-dominated industry in Rwanda.
Emelyne, one of our Career Girls in Rwanda, said this: “My career dream is to become a computer engineer. I know how I can change my world through technology and I know how I can develop my career.”
Our project in Rwanda would not be possible without donors like you. Thank you for being a Career Girls donor and friend! Your support is essential and allows us to reach more girls every day who are unsure about their futures.
