In Albania, Food and Medicine for the Poor

Four times a year, our Social Program delivers food and essential aid to individuals and families facing extreme hardship. Behind every package we distribute is a person with a unique story—many of them heartbreaking. It’s important to remember that these individuals are not just numbers on a report, but real people with real struggles.

Here’s a glimpse into the lives of just a few of the recipients from our latest distribution:

• A devoted caregiver – One man collects aid on behalf of his relatives, who are mentally impaired. Their children are being raised by their grandparents.
• A couple’s first photo – A man and his wife live in a collapsed former communist barrack. Some time ago, the wife wanted a photo of herself and her husband. We took the photo and then brought the framed photo to the next distribution event—bringing boundless joy. This time, they asked to include their beloved horse.
• A fragile but determined elder – An elderly man, once seriously ill, gathered the strength to walk the long distance to receive his parcel. Since he couldn’t carry it, others in the community helped transport it by mule—and even built him a small campfire to keep warm while waiting.
• A grieving widow – Once part of a local soup kitchen program with her husband, she moved back to his dilapidated village home after his passing—because at least there, she wouldn’t have to pay rent.
• A mother and son, survivors of abuse – This mother and her child, whom we’ve supported for over two years, suffered at the hands of her husband and father-in-law. Her son now experiences developmental delays as a result. She has found shelter with a relative.
• A struggling mother of two – With two children requiring daily insulin for diabetes, this mother works as a day laborer—sewing and harvesting for villagers—to make ends meet.

These are just six of the many individuals facing unimaginable hardships. But thanks to the generosity of donors, we are able to bring hope, support, and a moment of relief to hundreds more.
