Helping People Every Day

By Sarah Pita | Development Director, Nehemiah Gateway USA

The humanitarian team at Nehemiah Gateway Albania has been hard at work this winter, helping families in need in the Pogradec area.

They brought in-home aid to 13 families in extreme need, including not only food, warm clothing, and firewood, but also, in response to specific requests,  crutches, a wheelchair, an adaptive bed, and home repairs including door locks for a family that was recently robbed. Note that home visitation in the winter is limited by challenging road conditions, especially to remote mountain villages.

At the Buçimas Center, a total of 1034 people received aid and services free of charge, including physical and speech therapy, psychological counseling, nurse visits, and facilitated support groups. Our popular support group for mothers of children with disabilities, which is supported by the humanitarian team, held their annual party in the big hall at the Nehemia School this month.

Nehemiah Gateway works to help people move toward self-sufficiency. Our humanitarian program addresses immediate needs for food, clothing, shelter, health care, and psychological support, crucial first steps on a road to personal independence that looks a little different for each person. Your generous support keeps this important program going, and for that we thank you.

A donation of $25 covers a food bundle for a family in need in Pogradec. You can get one here.

Thank you very much for your generosity.

With gratitude,

Sarah Pita
