Oxen plow fields, haul cargo, thresh grain, and significantly raise the productivity of land. Most Haitians cultivate crops with hand plows and think owning an expensive ox is a mere dream.
Owning oxen are important for livelihoods in Haiti. Oxen plow fields in mere hours compared to the days it takes with hand plows. Increase crop productivity and food security in Southern Haiti by providing farmers with oxen to more efficiently cultivate their fields.
If we provide the Organization of Farmers from Besi and Klona (OPBK) 6 oxen, 3 plows, a veterinarian, tools and training, 54 farmers will be able to lift themselves out of poverty with sustainable incomes.
With the extra income provided by higher crop yields, children will have steady meals, improved health, go to school and have hope for the future. More importantly, 54 families will become self-sufficient.
