Dear Donors,
On May 23, 2018, I made a trip to Palompon, Leyte to coordinate with the local government for GPF Philippines’ next project in Buenavista, the Solar-Powered Livelihood Center. Palompon is a 2nd class municipality of Leyte. It is one of the municipalities hit hard by super typhoon Haiyan, but one of the fastest to recover due to its generous stakeholders and the steadfast leadership of its mayor, Hon. Ramon Oñate. Since the mayor is out of the country for a partnership development meeting, I met with the vice mayor, Hon. Georgina Arevalo, and the municipal planning and development office (MPDO) chief, Engr. Isagani Jaena, to discuss the construction of the project.
The local government of Palompon committed their cooperation and support. They have prepared a land to be donated to build the Solar-Powered Livelihood Center. A copy of the tax declaration and site map was forwarded to GPF Philippines.
With the local government representatives, we took a 30-minute ride to Buenavista to check the site donated by the municipal government and to give an orientation to the families about the project. With the assistance of MPDO Palompon, we facilitated a focused-group discussion with 60 family representatives from Buenavista All-Lights Village to ask about their perceptions on the project and the primary needs of their community. Accordingly, they will establish an accredited group that will lead and represent their community as members of the municipal planning and development council.
The families are grateful and excited to learn about the development in their community. With your continuous support, the construction of the Solar-Powered Livelihood Center will start in few months!
