This project will empower and train life skills and ICT courses to 240 young women who were not able to complete their education due to poverty and early marriages, but are willing to learn skills-based courses in order to start their own businesses and improve livelihoods for their families especially the children
The community of Kakuma, in Turkana west sub-county currently hosts over 191,500 refugees and at least 60,000 hosts from Turkana community according to United Nations High Commission for Refugees agency. Although the government of Kenya is supporting the various needs of the populous sub-county through devolution support, the pressure exerted by the refugees makes more youths, women and girls to suffer most. This project will support 240 young women that dropped out of school
Women will receive mentorship to refine the opportunities they see and the business ideas that they have into businesses. Girls will be empowered on social skills that will enable them manage their families, learn about their personal sexual wellbeing, nutrition and well being of the family. The youth will be taught on gender, refugee and human rights and also know how to take advantage of the diverse market place which is ripe for the improvement of their livelihoods.
The project will educate and empower 240 women on enterprise development allowing them to rise out of economic poverty caused by early pregnancies and low literacy levels to the point of being able to provide for their families, improve their health and as well as their well being.
