With a team of fellow IPE members we wrote this article, which compiles the main achievements and results of using the methodology in Bulgarian classrooms, as well as the main myths about how it works and does not work effectively putting the student at the center of mathematics education from the primary stage.
Over the past decade, the Institute for Progressive Education has invested significant resources in training and working with educators across the country, driven by the belief that teachers are the key to developing 21st century skills in Bulgarian students. We believe that together we can contribute to improving the educational process at its core so that it meets the challenges facing modern society. Change is possible and one of the vivid examples of the success of our joint efforts is the implementation of the JUMP Math program in a number of Bulgarian schools for the 13th consecutive year.
Raising the mathematics achievement of all Bulgarian students is crucial for the implementation of the Education Strategy 2021-2030, which aims to transition from textbook teaching and learning to a competency-based model for all Bulgarian students. It is therefore important that Bulgarian students and their teachers have access to the JUMP Math methodology. That is why our efforts, over the years, have been to ensure that this educational innovation, which for 13 years has been transforming the way mathematics is taught so as to develop universal skills of thinking, case-solving and creative participation in life, receives institutional support. The Ministry of Education and Science needs to be a partner in bringing innovations like JUMP Math into Bulgarian schools so that Bulgarian students are successful not only in competitions and Olympiads, but in every aspect of their real lives and careers.
Read the article, watch John Migthon's video, see Bulgarian students happy faces when they learn math with JUMP.
