Final Project Report

By Sarah Leavitt | Digital Outreach Manager

It has been 10 months since Hurricane Sandy hit the shores of Haiti and the Lambi Fund of Haiti would like to thank you for your generous support when so many Haitians were in need.  At this time, Lambi Fund’s Sandy Relief efforts have come to a close.  Work to strengthen communities and safeguard against the effects of future storms are ongoing though.

There is an immense need to improve water management so that farmers have access to water during times of drought.  Ramped up reforestation efforts are needed to fight soil erosion and flooding during periods of heavy rain (which have a habit of washing away crops).  Access to affordable, high-quality, drought-resistant crops needs to be improved and lastly, community-wide food storage efforts need to be implemented so that surpluses of food are available during times of crises.

If you would like to support ongoing efforts like these, please consider supporting Lambi Fund’s Project to Expand Local Food Production in Haiti.  Here, Lambi Fund is working to support sustainable solutions to many of Haiti’s farming difficulties.

Again, Lambi Fund would like to send a very BIG thank-you your way.  Haitian farmers were reeling following the damage of Hurricane Sandy and your support helped Lambi Fund:

  • Provide emergency relief grants to 14 grassroots organizations throughout Southern Haiti
  • Farmers quickly replanted crops lost from the storms including: rice, beans, corn, tomatoes, and peanuts
  • Organizations that lost animals were provided funding to repurchase goats and sheep, so that members could continue animal breeding projects
  • Food storage efforts were strengthened

Mesi ampil!  Please visit www.lambifund.org for more information about Lambi Fund’s work in partnership with grassroots organizations throughout Haiti, or follow us on facebook and twitter.
