Greetings GlobalGivers! Amazing news! One of our partner projects for this disaster fund has completed their project! Our partners over at Kids In Distressed Situations (KIDS) has finished up their relief efforts after raising some $20 million in relief funds! Congratulations and amazing work! Our other incredible partner, Architecture for Humanity, is utterly dedicated to rebuilding! They are still striving in needy areas to help any in need that they can!
As you may or may not remember from our past updates, Architecture for Humanity is building a school! They are repairing a heavily damaged school in Ocean City, New Jersey. Toms River Regional School North is the largest of three high schools in the area serving 2,400 children. The majority of students at Tom River North participate in some kind of inter or intramural sport. This shows why rebuilding sports facilities and school grounds is so important. Both students and administration emphasized their desire to get all school back to normal! However, Architecture for Humanity strives to make things BETTER than they were before!
Recently the Architecture for Humanity hosted their second community meeting at Tom River North to discuss the new ideas and plans and receive feedback from community members. Their pro-bono architect, Craig Brearley, presented on his updated stadium entrance design. He was met with enthusiastic and constructive advice from attending students and community members. Also present was the school districts very own TV-21 crew! This is a television station and radio station which is run by journalist and broadcast students in the school district. The TV-21 crew spent the day interviewing the design team and they recorded their results in a short video, which has been attached here!
The fact that there is still a need to rebuild even simple infrastructure projects shows that your help is still needed! Your neighbors on the East coast were deeply affected by the damages caused by Hurricane Sandy. The most lasting damages are obviously the mental and emotional drains caused by loss of life and property. But there is so much hope! One of our partners raised millions in supportive funds, the other promises to strive on until all is not repaired AND better than before.
