Safe Cookstove
HRI launched this project to help gain support for our dozen plus education & prevention projects due to COVID-19. Although we did not gain much support from GlobalGiving partners for this particular project, we received a lot of support from other fundraising platforms. As a result, HRI has been able to impact thousands of lives the past two years. This report will focus on 2021 program totals.
2021 was another year of great challenges due to the devastating impacts of covid-19, natural disasters (including the Haiti earthquake which was the largest disaster in the world in 2021), civil unrest, and alarming rates of increasing poverty in Haiti and Guatemala. According to the UN, covid-19 has led to the first rise in extreme poverty in a generation, compounding the threats to progress raised by conflict and climate change. HRI staff saw this impact first-hand in the lives of the children and families we serve.
In 2021, HRI partners together provided 686,646 meals in Haiti and Guatemala including 595,439 meals in Haiti and 91,207 meals in Guatemala. Since we began working in Haiti and Guatemala, 15,427,382 meals have been provided to over 3,500 children!
