Dear Supporters,
Thank you for helping this new campaign get off to a great start.
We're ready to give our first library in a box to a partner school in Eastern Indonesia in support of our ongoing program there. Investing in an area where we already have a presence enables us to strengthen existing relationships and multiply the effectiveness of your support.
The need is huge. The Indonesian government has reported that more than 65% of children in Eastern Indonesia are below the Ministry of Education department's minimum standard in reading. This is one of the lowest rates in the country, and higher than the World Bank's assessment of 53% of children facing learning poverty nationwide. You can find the latest World Bank report and other research findings about literacy in Indonesia on our website's Research and Writing section.
In our next update we'll share photos and more details of the school selected to receive the book box.
As ever, we remain hugely grateful for your generous support towards our long-term work for literacy in Indonesia.
Best wishes and salam literasi,
Stuart Patience
on behalf of the Saya Suka Membaca team
