MamiCare: Help at home for new mothers

We are so encouraged by the warm and generous response to our call to support this vital work. Thank you for choosing to invest your time and resources to see mothers in Albania helped in very concrete ways. 

Prenatal Classes

We just had our first prenatal seminar of the year. The full room of parents were very active participants and asked great questions. As we had planned, and because of your generous giving, we were able to hire an Albanian midwife, Eralda, who taught two of the four classes. 

Eralda connected beautifully with the participants, helping them understand what parts of labor and delivery they had control over, and what parts they didn't, and how to manage the different stages and decisions most effectively.

As we see interest growing, we are scaling up our offering of classes both in frequency and in variety.

Home Visits and lactation consulting

Mothers continue to seek out help for problems with breastfeeding in particular, and with general check-ups for mom and baby, and help with first baths. Eralda was called in for a case of a new mother with mastitis, a very painful condition. She was able to treat the problem and help the mother understand how to manage it.

Our lactation consultant Gail, who provides virtual consults was able to help several mothers with low milk supply increase their confidence and production. Gail really notices the spiritual and emotional state of each client and asks good questions, helping new mothers feel heard and supported.

Breast pumps and Silverettes

In order to keep up with demand for the best tools to help mothers keep up their milk supply, we made big orders of both Spectra Breast Pumps for our rental program, as well as Silverettes for mothers with cracked nipples. 

Spectra breast pumps are the best home pump on the market, and very close in functionality to the best hospital-qualiry pumps. We encourage mothers to rent a pump for a month or two just to get them through the rough patch. This saves them money and preserves their precious milk supply. 

Thanks to your generosity, we were able to double our supply so we can serve twice the number of mothers with this important tool.

15K on Instagram

We have very slowly inched our way up to 15,000 followers on Instagram. More and more, the brand is getting better known. As we grow and become more stable, we are able to serve a wide variety of mothers, always ready to provide high value to clients who pay full price on our services, and to serve clients who cannot afford that, but can give something.
