This project will provide 50 students from poor and disadvantaged families in Western Kenya with education scholarship to enable them complete their 3 years education in high school.
According to Kenya News Agency (KNA) in 2022, Kakamega County has over 13,000 households with children that are orphans and vulnerable. Although the government supports some households through cash transfer program, the amount of money disbursed is inadequate to fund secondary school fees for the orphans and vulnerable children. This project will support 50 vulnerable and orphan children enrolled in high schools but are on the brink of dropping out of school due to inability to pay fees
The scholarship amount will fund tuition, meals and accommodation for the students for the entire period they are in school for 3 years. ACDT will support the students by providing life skills and counselling support services when schools have closed to help them cope with orphanhood and vulnerability challenges.
The project will educate 25 boys and 25 girls allowing them to rise out of poverty and provide hope and stability for their families.
