Lebanon is a country that has a population of approximately 5.9 million and is currently home to 1.8 million Syrian refugees, making it the country with the highest per capita concentration of refugees in the world. A out of every 4 person is a refugee.
Over the past ten years the land of the cedars has been inexorably impoverished and today it is going through a profound social, economic and political crisis. Only in 2020 it declared default; is been overwhelmed by popular protests and the COVID19 pandemic; two governments fell and it was witnessed a tragedy in the heart of its capital, with the explosion in the port in August.
Although more than one year has passed now since the Beirut explosions, need assessments have shown increasing requests from families for help for former goods needs, food, repairs to the houses destroyed by the explosion.
Our activities:
1. Emergency Center in Gemmaize (Beirut)
2. Pro Terra Sancta Assistance Center - Medical dispensary (Tripoli)
3. Franciscan Care Center Art Therapy - Psychological rehabilitation center for children and adults (Beirut)
Since the requests for help at our emergency centers are drammatically increasing, we intend to increase activities in support of families in Beirut and other smaller cities of the Country. To do so we still need a lot of support!
