Transformation is an amazing thing! Not only does it take time and patience, but there are many hiccups along the way. As is true for all of us on this transformation process, we take a step forward and then a few backward. We have all experienced this in our lives. The women at Home of the Swallow are no different. Praise God that He doesn't give up on any of us and that the good work He has started in us He will carry onto completion. Since God is still working on all of us, please don't give up praying for the women at Home of the Swallow.
Masha just arrived at HOS this last April. She was referred to us by a social worker. Marsha and her daughter needed a safe place to stay and to heal from past abuse. Before coming to HOS, Marsha didn’t like to get dressed up and had no goals in life. She was very quiet and didn’t really want to talk to anyone. Marsha is now willing to talk more, dresses appropriately for different occasions, smiles more, and has some goals that she’d like to achieve.
Marsha says that since coming to HOS she feels like everyone here is family. Marsha says “When I came here, my life wasn’t very good. Many bad things have happened to me, and I didn’t grow up in a warm household at all.” About her life at the time she came into HOS, Marsha says, “I’m not impressed with myself at all. I can’t really do a whole lot of things. I feel depressed, and I want to sleep all of the time. I have no energy.” Due to some very deep emotional pain and some abuse that has happened to her, Marsh is dealing with depression.
About the time that Marsha came here, we were doing a training at HOS about understanding your worth and value. There are many good things about being a woman and we can develop the talents that we have in order to be successful in our lives. We asked each of the women to make both short term and long term goals. Some of the women had never thought about setting goals in their lives like this before. After doing this exercise, Marsha now has a newfound hope and desire to learn an occupation and find a way to support herself and her daughter.
While she’s here at HOS, Marsha would like to learn an occupation, because right now she has no way of supporting herself and her daughter. Her goal right now is to learn how to make and decorate cakes. In the future she would like to open a bakery.
