KMS finally Reopens!

As we approached the end of 2021, we had hoped that we would be allowed to open up. Some institutions in Uganda were allowed to open up in November, however, it was not clear whether institutions such as Kampala Music School would be able to or not. Sadly, it became apparent that we would not resume physical lessons as soon as we thought we could. Instead, online classes would continue, with a few more students, but many of our students were still unable to join.

The administration team continued to work hard to make sure these lessons were running smoothly and ensure that those preparing for ABRSM exams could do so. As a result, some were able to sit their exams, with some really could results, including Edward, who scored 146 out of 150 – an amazing achievement.

The recent fundraiser on #GivingTuesday enabled us to continue our preparations for opening fully on 10th of January, as indicated by the government of Uganda. Some repairs on the building were made possible, and the administration team were getting prepared.

We look forward to receiving all our students back in 2022. In addition, we hope that we will be able to start teaching students in the schools where we taught prior to the pandemic. With vaccination rates increasing we are confident that all should go well.

We thank you very much for all your generosity and help through this challenging period; this has enabled us to remain full of hope and plan for the future. We will keep you updated as to how things go, but as we post this report we were able to welcome students back to the building on the 10th January and it has been great to hear music filling the school once again. The staff and the teachers are very grateful for the support offered and hope you will continue to partner with us in 2022 as we reopen and move forward with the ongoing plans for the music school.
